01
Calibrate in mesocosms
Test stocking density and silver/bighead carp ratios in the target waterbody before scaling.
PILLAR 04 / AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS
Mesocosm-calibrated fish stocking, multi-trophic regulation and ecological nutrient harvesting.
THE CHALLENGE
A disrupted food web and poorly calibrated stocking can undermine algae control, disturb sediment and limit the recovery of submerged vegetation.
THE APPROACH
We use in-situ enclosure trials to determine species ratios and biomass thresholds, combining filter-feeding fish, native piscivores and benthic grazers with measured nutrient export through harvesting.

TECHNICAL SCOPE
01
Test stocking density and silver/bighead carp ratios in the target waterbody before scaling.
02
Align filter-feeding fish, native piscivores and benthic mollusks with habitat and water-quality objectives.
03
Track optical clarity, chlorophyll-a and fishery condition, adjusting harvesting and management to carrying capacity.
BROCHURE REFERENCE / TECHNICAL CONTEXT
South China source-pond reference: Secchi depth 43.3 → 79.4 cm; chlorophyll-a 9.35 → 5.42 μg/L.
July 2025 acceptance monitoring compares before/after means for combined phosphorus locking, aeration and biomanipulation. It does not isolate the effect of fish stocking alone.
